Functional skills, built on frameworks that already work
We are building an Entry 1 to Level 2 functional skills pathway in maths and English — mapped directly from the curriculum frameworks already live on the platform. It is honest to say it is not ready yet. It is also coming, and it matters.

The problem
Functional skills are the gate too many learners get stuck at
Apprentices cannot complete their gateway without functional skills. NEET young people are routinely told to come back when they have maths and English. Adult learners face the same wall.
The teaching on offer is often a resit-style repeat of what failed them at school — same format, same marking, same result.
Our approach
How MIAG solves it
Mapped, not written from scratch
Our Year 3–7 maths and Year 3–4 English courses already cover the underlying skills. We are mapping that content onto the functional skills standards, so the pathway launches with depth behind it rather than a thin new syllabus.
The same teaching model that re-engages
Avatar tutors model each skill, practise it with the learner, then hand over — with typed answers, hints, and green-tick marking. It is deliberately unlike the classroom experience that did not work the first time.
Progress evidence from day one
Per-learner tracking will show providers and employers exactly where each learner sits against the standards, and what is left before they are assessment-ready.
